All about Vitamins

Everywhere I look, I see more and more vitamin benefits being touted by company after company. We all know we need vitamins, but we don’t think about getting them from our foods. For some reason, we would rather pop a vitamin pill in the morning and then eat junk all day. This bothers me, and I know that I am one of those people, well, at least I used to be. I have begun to realize that the vitamin benefits I need can can come from what I eat each day, and that eating these foods makes me feel better than any pill ever has.

There are great vitamin benefits, and without them, you can become sick and weak. There are diseases that can occur from a simple vitamin deficiency. That sounds scary, but that does not mean you have to run out and buy a vitamin supplement to remain healthy. They can help you when you know you aren’t doing all you can do to eat better, but there can be problems if you take too much. If you really want vitamin benefits, and think you need the help of a supplement, you should talk to your doctor first.

I recently did a series of articles about vitamin benefits, and I was surprised to see what can happen if you take too much or if you are not getting enough. It would almost seem like it is too hard to get right in the middle, but it is easier than you might think. As long as you eat balanced and healthy meals, you are going to get what you need. If you think there is a problem, you can’t decide on your own that you need extra vitamin D or B. You should make sure you find your vitamin information from the very best source in the world: your doctor.

You might go into a store like GNC and be assaulted with information about the vitamin benefits that you are missing. You should know that you probably aren’t. It’s just like Gatorade. I can’t stand the stuff, but it was not made for me. There are great vitamin benefits that can come from things like this, and Gatorade is made to re-hydrate, but rarely does the average person get so dehydrated that they need this. Water would work just fine. Athletes and those with very labor-intensive jobs are the ones who should be drinking it. They might also get more vitamin benefits from a supplement. You might just be wasting your money.

Vitamins and trace minerals are required constituents of the human diet since they are either inadequately synthesized or not synthesized in the human body. Only small amounts of these substances are needed for carrying out essential biochemical reactions (e.g., acting as coenzymes or prosthetic groups). Overt vitamin or trace mineral deficiencies are rare in western countries due to a plentiful, varied, and inexpensive food supply; however, multiple nutrient deficiencies may appear together in persons who are ill or alcoholic. Moreover, subclinical vitamin and trace mineral deficiencies, as diagnosed by laboratory testing, are quite common in the normal population¾especially the geriatric population.

Body stores of vitamins and minerals vary tremendously. For example, vitamin B12 and vitamin A stores are large, and an adult may not become deficient for 1 or more years after being on a depleted diet. However, folate and thiamine may become depleted within weeks when eating a deficient diet. Therapeutic modalities can deplete essential nutrients from the body; for example, hemodialysis removes water-soluble vitamins, which must be replaced by supplementation.

There are several roles for vitamins and trace minerals in diseases:
(1) Deficiencies of vitamins and minerals may be caused by disease states such as malabsorption;

(2) Both deficiency and excess of vitamins and minerals can cause disease in and of themselves (e.g., vitamin A intoxication and liver disease)

(3) Vitamins and minerals in high doses may be used as drugs (e.g., niacin for hypercholesterolemia).

Nutrition Vitamins
We all need to focus more on eating right and living healthy lives. If we fail to do so, then I'm sad to say that our life spans won't amount to much. The truth is that folks should absolutely be living longer in this day and age. Our new-age medicine and technology is a primary reason for that. Heck, we have oodles and oodles of knowledge regarding health, fitness and nutrition. It's time to take full advantage of this infinite data and use it to our advantage. This means no more fast food, soft drinks, smoking and excessive drinking. We need to think with our heads and not our stomachs. Push aside those daily cravings and squelch this desire for junk food. It's high time for low fat foods, plenty of water, and daily nutrition vitamins. It's time to start living well.

You can basically find any sort of nutrition vitamins in a variety of stores these days. It's not like you have to head on over to GNC in particular. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend it. This original nutrition store has some seriously jacked-up prices. If you don't believe me, then just take a gander at their prices on the World-Wide-Web. Pop open their website and check out the nutrition vitamins. Once you've gotten an idea of their costs, head on over to your local drug store and do the same. Compare the prices of the drug store to the prices of GNC. This is a massive difference, folks. I should know, I used to buy into that whole "vitamins for men" mumbo-jumbo back in high school. GNC offers them for men and women specifically. But, for the cost of around 20 dollars. I can get the same quality nutrition vitamins from Walgreen's for 5 or 6 bucks. Ever heard of Centrum or a variety of other no-name brands? Many of these offer the same nutritional value at a fraction of the price.

The web is also a great place to shop for nutrition vitamins. There are websites galore on this topic. You can even take it upon yourself to search for reviews concerning a number of vitamin brands. Get professional opinions on them before purchasing. That's what I did. Your goal is to find quality nutrition vitamins that offer you an extra dose of nutrients and minerals each and every day. Chances are you're not getting enough from your meals.
